Both the puzzle steps and the leaf steps have three-eights inch rebar in them to prevent the tabs and narrow places from breaking. They are two inches thick. the book Creative Concrete Garden Ornaments for the Garden by Sherri Warner Hunter has instructions for making the puzzle steps and all of the black and white pieces on this page can be made with those instructions.

These large steps are 3 inches thick. For scale the circular one on the right is 15 inches in diameter. They have coarse aggregate in them consisting of small quartz pieces that had been saved from sand sifted for my usual mix and scrapings that were left over from other tinted carves. The scrapings were spread out on plastic and allowed to dry then screened through quarter inch hardware cloth. The coarse aggregates were then added to the usual 3 to 1 mix.
